Atishi to be new chief minister of Delhi

Delhi: In a legislative meeting on Tuesday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs elected Atishi as their new leader, positioning her to become the next Chief Minister of Delhi. She is expected to take the oath of office around 4:30 pm, following Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation submitted to the Delhi Lieutenant Governor.

At a press conference, AAP leader Gopal Rai reiterated the party's demand for early elections in Delhi, calling for them to be held by November instead of the scheduled February date.

Atishi currently holds key portfolios in the Delhi government, including Education and the Public Works Department. An Oxford University graduate and Rhodes scholar, she has played a pivotal role in AAP’s efforts to reform Delhi’s school education system.

In her media address after the announcement, Atishi expressed gratitude to her mentor, Kejriwal, saying, “Arvind Kejriwal has placed his trust in me with this responsibility. I urge all people of Delhi to once again support Arvind Kejriwal as Chief Minister because of his integrity.”
