Comrade Sitaram Yechury is a prominent Indian politician and a senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPI(M). He is known for his intellectual and ideological commitment to Marxism and has played a vital role in shaping the party's strategies over the years.

Born on August 12, 1952, in Tamil Nadu, Yechury became politically active during his time at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), where he participated in the student movements of the 1970s. He rose to national prominence as a student leader and later took on leadership roles within CPI(M), serving in various capacities, including being elected to the Politburo, the party's highest decision-making body.

Yechury is also recognized for his articulate speeches in Parliament, particularly as a member of the Rajya Sabha, where he has raised issues concerning social justice, workers' rights, secularism, and economic inequality. His role in advancing the CPI(M)’s position on national and international issues has earned him a respected status within left-wing politics in India.

In addition to his political activities, Yechury is known for his writings on Marxist theory, Indian politics, and global affairs.

With chants of "Comrade ko lal salaam," a final farewell was given to CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury. Hundreds of supporters, fists raised in salute, walked over 2 km in New Delhi, accompanying his mortal remains from the CPI(M) headquarters at AKG Bhawan to Ashoka Road. The procession was filled with continuous chants, while friends, party workers, and students honored their beloved leader.

Earlier in the day, at AKG Bhawan, Yechury’s body was kept for public viewing under white tents, where his family, comrades, students, and political leaders from various parties gathered to pay their respects. Leaders like AAP’s Manish Sisodia, SP’s Akhilesh Yadav, Congress’ Sonia Gandhi, and DMK’s Udhayanidhi Stalin were among the attendees, alongside ambassadors from China, Palestine, and Vietnam.
