MSU Elections Canceled Amid Ongoing Protests at MANUU

Hyderabad: The student protest at Maulana Azad National Urdu University ( a central University)(MANUU) has been led by candidates and leaders from various student bodies, including AUSF, ASL and ANSA. Additionally, former members of MSU (MANUU Students Union) are actively participating in the movement. These leaders have played a significant role in amplifying the demands of the students, which include the resignation of the proctor, conducting elections on time, improving hostel facilities, and addressing misbehavior by kitchen employees.

In a recent turn of events, the Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) administration has canceled the MANUU Students Union (MSU) elections for 2024-2025. The decision, announced on September 20, 2024, was taken due to the "prevailing situation and unrest" on the university campus, including its off-campus sites. The unrest is a result of ongoing protests led by student organizations such as AUSF, ASL, ANSA, and former MSU members. Their demands include the resignation of the proctor and provost, better hostel facilities, and timely student elections.

The order was signed by Prof. M. A. Azeem, Chief Returning Officer for the MSU elections.

The protesting students at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) have a list of demands centering on various issues affecting their daily lives. These include:

1. Resignation of the proctor: This demand is rooted in the allegation that the proctor insulted the students' legitimate concerns about food quality in the mess.

2. Timely student elections: Students are insisting that elections be conducted as scheduled, emphasizing the need for proper representation.

3. Hostel facilities: They are also calling for the provision of adequate hostel facilities for all students, addressing concerns about overcrowding and resource shortages.

4. Removal of misbehaving kitchen staff: Another key demand is the removal of kitchen employees who have reportedly behaved rudely, and uncomfortable environment for students.

5. The student protest at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) also involves a demand for the resignation of the girls' hostel provost. Students have raised concerns regarding the provost’s management, particularly in relation to their living conditions, safety, and the quality of hostel services.

These issues highlight deep-seated frustrations regarding the administration’s handling of student welfare, particularly around food quality and hostel accommodation.
